After the heatwave, the deluge…..
Martin Elliott of local developer Rees Elliott said “Some builders responded by installing ugly, concrete bunds around their houses, but we wanted a better solution. We wanted to build a stylish modern house close to the river on a site previously occupied by a boathouse and slipway”

A short hop from Brighton, the pretty town of Lewes is home to an eye-catching pair of new contemporary villas. Set into a south-facing hillside with views of the South Downs, and just minutes from the town centre and railway station, the houses replace an undistinguished bungalow in a quiet street.
Designed by Brighton-based Morgan Carn Partnership for developer Rees Elliott, the homes are finished in pristine white stucco, with large grey-framed windows (some with remote-control cedar louvers). With three bedrooms, each house spans well over 2,000sq ft and is priced at £750,000.
Flooring throughout is walnut with some limestone and resin; the kitchen is in stainless steel and dark oak by Tissetanta with Miele appliances. The laid-back showhome interiors have been hung entirely with paintings by artist Tom Hammick.
